Field Crew

We are currently looking to fill 4 part-time Field Crew positions for the 2022 Season. The field crew will work under the direct supervision of the co-managers and will primarily focus on planting and harvesting and related vegetable production tasks. This includes, but is not limited to: starting transplants in the greenhouse, preparing no-till beds for planting in the field (broadforking, adding compost, and raking), direct seeding field crops, transplanting crops in the field, cultivating field crops, harvesting all the various vegetables and fruits we grow over the course of the season, and washing and packing produce for restaurant deliveries, our weekly on farm market, and CSA. The experience gained from this position should well prepare workers for continued and progressing positions in sustainable agriculture. In addition to learning the practical skills required to become a competent farmer, the farm crew employee will also gain a deeper understanding of the science and philosophy of sustainable agriculture, and how those principles guide the operations of a working farm.

Farming is physically demanding work and we expect our employees to be committed, passionate and hard working. We strive to maintain a positive work environment and expect crew members to be professional, productive, and to maintain a good attitude. Ideal candidates will be dependable/timely, self-motivated, curious, quick learners, able to take direction and follow specific instructions. Candidates must be able to work on their feet all day, lift 50 lbs, and perform at a high level in all types of conditions. (Heat/Humidity, Cold, and Rain). Candidates who have some experience or background in farming or gardening and live in Southwest Atlanta are preferred. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

A 4 day work week will begin in early April (Wednesday-Saturday). Beginning in May the work week will increase to 5 days a week and run through September 2022 (Tuesday-Saturday). Depending on the needs of the farm after September, Field crew positions may have the opportunity to continue work on a reduced schedule for 1-3 months. Candidates must be able to commit to working through September. The daily schedule will adjust with the season, with start times between 7am and 8am and end times between 11-12 (typically a 4 hour work shift). Since we work outside and inclement weather such as lightning may prevent us from working safely, some days may end early or be canceled. Occasionally, given their availability, Farm Crew team members may be asked to stay late to finish a task. The Farm Crew positions pay $12/hour, plus a weekly CSA share. To promote and sustain the general health of our employees, we encourage each crew member to take up to one week of vacation (unpaid) during the month of August.
